I have a Ph.D. in chemical biology, I am a homeschooling mom to our 10 year old daughter, and I am obsessed with TV shows and Star Trek books. I am excited to share with you our life and our journey with Young Living essential oils.
Being a scientist, I was skeptical by nature about essential oils. In fact, if it were not for the fact that two of my dear friends whom I trust completely (one is an RN!) were the ones who shared about these products with me, I would probably still not be using oils! But, because I trusted them, I was willing to try them.
The first oil I ever smelled was Thieves – a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiatta, and rosemary oils. My initial thought was ugh, that stinks! I have never liked cloves, so I think I was reacting to that part of the oil. We were on a plane, and my friend insisted this oil would help her immune system ward off whatever icky stuff could be being passed around in the recycled air and on the surfaces of the seats we were sitting in. I told her I was fine and didn’t need any (silly me!). That evening, after having driven, flown, gone through customs, and dealt with a 5 year old while traveling, my friend suggested I try another blend to help keep me from snoring and maybe sleep a little better. So I rubbed Valor (a blend of black spruce, camphor, blue tansy, frankincense, and geranium oils) across the bottoms of my big toes (internally shaking my head in skepticism) and proceeded to fall asleep before my husband at 10:15 PM! For any of you who know me, I think this was the first (and probably last!) time I ever fell asleep before him and at such an early time. And I slept so soundly! It was amazing.
Still, despite my own personal experience, I was still skeptical even as I purchased my Premium Starter Kit with a diffuser. But, I knew I had issues (especially with allergies!) that I wanted to tackle because traditional medicine wasn’t working well and was interfering with my life. So I started slowly (more good advice from my dear friend!) with diffusing lavender, lemon, and peppermint oils. I progressed, once I noticed a difference from diffusing alone, to using the oils topically. And wow! What a difference I experienced! The oils helped my immune system function much better and I made it through a fall allergy season without allergy shots and without the need for antihistamines. I was a believer!!!
Fast forward to today – I and my family use many different oils and oily supplements and oily personal care products to help maintain a more healthy home with less harsh chemicals in the air and in or on our bodies. I have slowly replaced many medicines, home cleaning products, soaps, toothpaste, laundry detergent, and even makeup, with these natural and highly pure products from Young Living.
My goal with this blog is to educate you about the power of quality essential oils, encourage you to try them yourself and explore what they can do for you and your healthy living goals, and finally empower you with the knowledge and tools to share their benefits with others who desperately need them. To that end, I encourage you to send me questions about any things you want to know about oils – how to use them, how to replace things in your home with more natural options, the seed to seal quality commitment, etc. I will work to address these questions here in my blog as a way to provide a resource to you. I will also follow up personally to every question I receive.
