Welcome to my Oily Guru website!  Did you know that the average person applies 300 chemicals to their body every single day and most women apply 80 of them even for breakfast?   Most of these chemicals are from four things–soap, makeup, shampoo and hair care.  When I started looking for natural ways to support my family’s health, I realized that we were literally being poisoned in our own home with stuff that cannot even be pronounced. Essential oils are WAY better.  They are totally chemical free, steam distilled or cold pressed from pure plants. Plus there are so many uses for them – cleaning supplies, personal care products like shampoos, toothpaste, and lotions, oil-infused supplements for nutrition and in the diffuser for physical and emotional health.  I can use them on all my family members including the furry ones!!   I would love to help get you started –it’s easy, simple and it’s a change that you can make to protect your family and take control over what is in your home!

Well ‘somebody’ forgot to clean out the outside drain, and of course, it came a downpour.  I am talking the bucket fell out of the sky, and water had nowhere to go but to the basement.  Sure enough a couple of weeks later, we found the dreaded mold all around the bottom of the walls.  I am thinking “oh wow” this is going to cost some major bucks to remediate – couple of thousand at least!!  But then I found out that one of my essential oils in my Young Living starter kit is actually covered in the book “Nature’s Mold Rx”  – the non-toxic solution to toxic mold written by Edward Close, PhD and Jacquelyn Close, PhD.

So we checked it out and did the whole recommended protocol:  (1) Therapro Diffuser, (2) Thieves Household Cleaner, (3) Thieves Essential Oil, and (4) Lemongrass Essential Oil.

We diffused Thieves for 24 hours straight and then Lemongrass for 24 hours straight (combination kills all mold) and then used the cleaner to wipe off the dead mold.  It has been several months now and all mold is still gone!!  YAY! For under $200 mold is gone and no toxins were used!  Win-Win!!

Snake Oils – ever wonder where the name comes from? It started in the early 19th century when traveling salesman where selling liquid concoctions claiming to be a cure all but actually had no or very questionable medical value. They made the oils as cheap as possible and definitely had no quality control or any scientific research to prove their claims.

I see several ‘snake oil’ companies popping up everywhere – trying to cash in on a market that has shown great health benefits. These oils are cheap! Some of these oils smell good! BUT where is their proof that their land is toxin free, that they control their processes, and have 3rd party testing? Where is their lab results that provide scientific evidence that their product is 100% pure? If the whole reason to have essential oils in my life is to be HEALTHY why in the world would I risk using questionable products that have fillers in them so they can be cheap and that will actually hurt me?!?

What would you say was the difference between being healthy or being sick?  Science has shown one factor is tied to your birth line – some people are born with hereditary genes that lead the illnesses.  Another difference is that some people just get sick for no apparent reason – it just sadly happens.  But I believe the main difference between begin healthy or being sick comes down to one word – CHOICES.  That’s right – we choose to be healthy or sick by the choices we make when it comes for our food plan,  exercising, sleep, our personal products, cleaning supplies, or how we handle stress.

I have been on a journey toward health and wellness for almost two year now. So after almost two years, my food plan of restricting sugar (poison), grains, dairy products and processed foods is still in play.  I still have some form of exercise on a routine basis.  I have slowly replaced harsh chemicals and toxins in my home with natural products (YAY for Young Living!) and I have lived above the wellness line supporting my physical, emotional, and mental health (including much needed sleep!) having Young Essential Oils in my daily life.

So yes, being healthy in most cases is a choice so CHOOSE the best!

People are all the time saying two things to me:  (1) You do not look THAT old, and (2) How did you get SO thin?  Let me start by just saying – looks can be deceiving.  I am THAT old and I still have WORK to do in order to be in the best of health.  But for me getting healthy is not a fad – it is mandatory!  Working at good health is mandatory if I want what I call a “good quality of life”.  Meaning I do not want my health to deteriorate to the point I could not live a normal life.  And I was getting really close to that happening…

FIRST things first:  I changed to a food plan.   I did NOT go on a diet – for me a diet is not the way to get healthy.  What I did was changed the way I ate, and what I ate.  After some research, the first thing I knew I had to do was ‘bite the bullet’ and do a 10-day-detox from sugar.  Dr. Mark Hyman has some really good tips (and recipes) on how to do that (just google his name).   I am not gonna lie – it was TORTURE!  But it was the best.thing.ever!  When I completed that 10 days, I felt so much better, and sugar was poison to me.  So on my food plan, sugar is very restricted.  I also restrict dairy, grains, and processed foods.  I make my own breakfast and lunch.  When I am not traveling I will cook suppers, but most of the time I am just very choosey about what I order.  I try to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day and make sure I have plenty of lean proteins.

SECOND Thing: Exercise, exercise, exercise.  I can’t say it enough.  Guys, this is the KEY to not feeling old.  I do some form of exercise six days a week (unless I am in a temporary relapse).  You do not have to join a gym or workout like a body builder; but everyday day do SOMETHING.  Walk, jog, run, bike, swim, yoga, tennis, the list can go on and on…. Just do it!  At least 2-3 days a week, you need to do some form of strength training on joints and muscles along with your exercise.   My husband and I did invest in a treadmill, on which we will walk at least 30-45 minutes at time.  I will also do yoga for 15 minutes, and then some days I’ll do strength training with wrist and ankle weights, stretchy rope, and a figure-8 cruncher for at least 15 mins.  There are all kinds of examples on the internet for targeting an area you need strength or improvement in.  No matter what steps you take toward getting healthy –exercise HAS to be part of the plan!  So make it fun and enjoyable for you!  And you will feel SO much better in SO many ways when you follow through with a simple and practical exercise plan that fits your life and schedule!

THIRD Thing:  Natural products.  Yep, you guessed it – I am going to talk about Young Living because these natural products have helped me so much in the changes I have made in my life.  I know there is a lot of scary information about some scary stuff, but for me – It is all about meeting goals.  I want to live “Above the WELLNESS line”.  I use the oils and the oil supplements for physical, emotional, and mental health.   I have replaced all the different cleaning products with one from Young Living.  Our personal care products are in the process of being replaced now (out with the bad – in with the good) and I am even looking at the natural YL beauty products to help with this age thing 🙂

When I first started my journey to living a healthy life naturally, one of my doctors gave me really good advice.  Do not set goals of 100% in each of these areas.  If you do, you are setting yourself up to fail.  Instead, set goals of 80-90% and even when you are off your plan the 10-20%, you are still ON the plan because it allows you to be off.  SCORE!

These three steps are lifestyle changes, so it’ll take work and dedication… but it’s all SO worth it!  You’ll have no regrets about feeling better and living a good quality of life!  Just GO for it!!!!  You will be so glad you did 🙂
