I’m a stay at home mom to two little boys. I love using Young Living’s essential oils to support our bodies. We’ve switched our nearly every product in our home for a more natural, toxic-free option in the last year. I enjoy making my own products when I can and experimenting with different recipes.
Let’s say you’ve just got done cleaning the kitchen after the kids go to bed (because who has time to do this while they’re awake?). The last thing you’d typically do is wipe down the counters. You grab your regular ole chemical cleaner and towel, then scrub away, getting rid of all the crumbs and juice spills. You’re finally done for the day and grab a well deserved treat. Before that treat reaches the plate, you drop it on the counter. If you’re anything like me you go into a mild panic of “OH MY GOD I HAVE TO PICK THAT UP QUICK!” and “wait, do I REALLY want to eat something that probably just absorbed some of that chemical cleaner I used?” Let’s just say my days of remorsefully throwing away otherwise perfectly good treats are behind me. Enter Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner. I LOVE this product. It contains ingredients from renewable plant and mineral sources, vegetable-based surfactants, and even more Thieves and lemon essential oils for extra cleaning power.
Lemon is well known among natural cleaning groups. Just Google “Lemon for cleaning” and you finds thousands of articles ranging from how to disinfect your cutting board to adding lemon juice to brighten whites. Thieves is a special blend of essential oils from Young Living containing clove, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils. The cleaner itself is a concentrate and you use different dilution rates to make separate cleaners.
I currently use a solution of 3/4 of a capful to 8 oz of water, which is about a 1:20-1:25 ratio. The 1:30 shown in the above picture just wasn’t cutting it for what I originally used it for. I’ve since kept that ratio because it worked so well. The only issue I’ve had with it is that my ratio tends to wipe a little bit of paint off my walls. I have yet to get around to making a more diluted solution to try on them. But for everything else this dilution has worked. I’m talking windows, mirrors, counters, highchairs, you name it. I’ve even been known to throw a capful into my laundry when I left the clothes in the washer too long. You can even add it and some water to a foaming soap pump and voila! Hand soap. And do you want to know what I think the best bonus of this product is? It smells like Christmas! Now when I’m cleaning, instead of coughing and getting headaches from bleach, my husband walks around singing “it’s beginning to smell a lot like Christmas, everywhere I go.”
Here’s another bonus: because the Thieves Household Cleaner is sold as a concentrate, you end up saving a lot of money. Since most people use the 1:30 (1 capful to 30 parts water) dilution for most cleaning, if you broke that down into ounces then the 64 oz bottle of cleaner would end up making 128 30 oz all-purpose bottles of cleaning spray! That’s .88 cents per bottle! Now where are you going to find chemical cleaner for that price?
This is my first “Oily Pregnancy”, as some would call it. We’re a little over halfway through and I’m so glad I’ve had them. I dislike using OTC medications during pregnancy, and with this one being a bit harder than the last, I needed something to support my body. Here’s my list:
Deep Relief Roll-On: I’ve used this oil blend for any discomfort I’ve had. I apply it to the back and sides of my hips, low back and shoulders. I love the cooling sensation that comes from the Peppermint in this blend. Combined with yoga and walking on the treadmill is has helped me to stay active with my toddler.
Lemon: I love Lemon essential oil in my water even when I’m not pregnant. Since my goal intake is 80 ounces of water per day, Lemon helps to make it less boring.
Joy: I’ve been using Joy to start my days off right. I apply a drop over my heart in the mornings and I’m good to go. Joy essential oil blend contains Jasmine, which is one of my favorite scents.
Progessence Plus Serum: I also apply this blend in the morning around the insides of my ankles. Progessence Plus is a harmonizing serum that is designed specifically for women.
NingXia Red: Chasing around a toddler is exhausting. I added 1 ounce of NingXia Red in the early afternoon to help me stay energized for the rest of the day. It’s much better for you than coffee (usually mine is loaded with creamer and sugar) or energy drinks, and you don’t get a crash a few hours later.
I’ve been working on my “Labor Oils” list (although if this birth is like the last it’ll be a “Post-Partum List” so be sure and check back soon for that!
